Debra Nestel is a Professor of Simulation Education in Healthcare at Monash University and Professor of Surgical Education in the Department of Surgery at the University of Melbourne, Australia. She is the Editor-in-Chief of Advances in Simulation, the journal of the Society in Europe for Simulation Applied to Medicine (SESAM). Debra leads several academic programs, including the Master of Surgical Education (University of Melbourne and Royal Australasian College of Surgeons), the Master of Surgical Science (University of Melbourne), and the Graduate Certificate in Clinical Simulation (Monash University). She also leads the national NHET-Sim program for simulation educators and a virtual network focused on simulated patient methodology. Debra has published over 180 peer-reviewed articles in health professions education and edited multiple books on simulated patient methodology (2015), healthcare simulation (2017), surgical education (2018), and research methods for healthcare simulation (2019).
